That tyrant, the capable little Canon PowerShot 300 HS, has finally toppled from the top of the list. Taking its place, in a not-quite-fair-fight, is the Nikon 1 J1. This much buzzed-about compact system camera puts Nikon in the mirrorless game. In our own review, we found it entirely capable, if lacking in something extra that makes it a best in class shooter.
